Although the COVID-19 emergency shuttered the campus before some of our planned events could occur, we were nevertheless able to host a variety of conferences and colloquia this year. These included talks by distinguished scholars Mark Schroeder (University of Southern California), Anton Ford (University of Chicago), Monique Wonderly (UC Santa Cruz) and Alison Keith (University of Toronto). We were also able to host a conference on Defeasible Inference in Computer Science and Philosophy, as well as a well-attended workshop on a forthcoming book by Professor Sean Kelsey on Aristotle’s De Anima, which featured attendees from around the nation.
Through the generosity of the Kaplan Panzer Philosophical Endowment, the Department of Philosophy continues to expand our programming, UCLA Distinguished Lecture in Philosophy, and the History of Philosophy Cycle.
This fall we have the following planned:
- Friday, October 2: UCLA Department of Philosophy Townhall to welcome and introduce the incoming class to their peers, staff, and faculty. In addition, we will provide an update on the Department and the upcoming academic year.
- Friday, October 30: Colloquium with Cristina Bicchieri, University of Pennsylvania; to be hosted online
Please save the date in 2021:
- Friday, February 5: Colloquium with Christine Korsgaard, Harvard; to be hosted online
