Meet the Speakers

Mandy Tang
UCLA ’25, B.A. Philosophy and Accounting, Aleph Humanities Journal
Other on-campus work Mandy has been involved in includes being Assistant Editor-in-Chief for Aleph, the UCLA Undergraduate Research Journal for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Volume 22 (2024–2025). She is also a writer for the UCLA Business Law and Investing Society Undergraduate Law Review, Volumes III & IV. Additionally, Mandy presented at the 2023 Undergraduate Research Week on her project in Buddhist studies. This year, she will also be co-hosting the Aleph Journal Author/Editor Roundtable Discussion during the upcoming research week! After graduation, Mandy will pursue law and finance in Hong Kong.

Lucy Liu
UCLA ’25, B.A. Philosophy and Political Science, Philosophy Writing Center
In addition to co-hosting, Lucy works at the Undergraduate Philosophy Writing Center, where she’s had the opportunity to learn from hundreds of students about their theses. She is an editor on Meditations, the undergraduate philosophy journal, and has worked as a freelance editor and admissions consultant for six years. Her philosophical interests include ethics, political theory, and the practical applications of philosophy in law and everyday decision-making. At UCLA, she organized projects related to the caregiving crisis, criminal justice, and healthcare. Outside of campus, she conducted research on defense, diplomacy, and immigration policy at the Stimson Center, an international relations think tank. Lucy plans to pursue a career in law focused on children’s rights, education policy, and social work. Next year, she will be working either as a legal assistant or as a policy consultant for an international semiconductor company.
