On the Possibility and Permissibility of Interpersonal Punishment
Any all-time favorite philosophical articles or books you would recommend? Any new discoveries?
I loved every word of Larissa MacFarquhar’s recent-ish collection, Strangers Drowning. It’s a series of profiles of people she calls “do-gooders”– those living their lives according to (what they take to be) extremely demanding ethical imperatives. LM brings vividly to life some of the central questions of moral theory. I recommend it to philosophers and non-philosophers alike.
