Do you have a good story or two about the department?
David Friedell was an assistant lecturer who taught a few classes my last year at UCLA. He put together a seminar course on Philosophy and Film where we covered different philosophical issues and how they were presented in movies. Topics included consciousness of artificial intelligence (Her, Ex Machina, Blade Runner), external world skepticism (Vanilla Sky, The Matrix), and justified true belief theory of knowledge (Minority Report, Rear Window). The class was very fun and intellectually rewarding. The course was an example about how many ways you can apply and study philosophy.
