What were your favorite philosophy courses at UCLA?
Medieval Philosophy (with John Carriero), Descartes (ibid), Existentialism, specifically Nietzsche (Mark Johnson)
Are there any philosophical issues, readings, or topics that have stayed with you since graduation?
Yes… Descartes passages on cognizing and withholding judgment. And some of Nietzsche’s work.
What lessons or skills from philosophy do you use in your career?
What don’t I use! Philosophy taught me how to think, what to think about, and how to notice what to think about.
Do you have advice for current students or recent graduates about how to take advantage of and continue their philosophical education?
Keep thinking people, it might just be the only thing keeping us alive…
