Please join us on May 14, 2024 in Dodd Hall 399 (and via Zoom) for a workshop on Autonomy and Epistemology.

This workshop aims at exploring the notion of autonomy in epistemology. The value of intellectual or epistemic autonomy has been the object of recent discussions in epistemology. In particular, philosophers have asked whether being intellectually autonomous is a quality that favors achieving knowledge, understanding or rationality, and one which agents should therefore cultivate or, on the contrary, whether it promotes methods of inquiry that undermines our epistemic goals. This workshop’s contributions will interrogate the relationship between autonomy and key notions in epistemology such as epistemic responsibility, inquiry, and testimony.
