Appointments

Voting on Appointments that Confer Senate Membership
The Philosophy Department declares itself in compliance with UC Senate Bylaws which require the following faculty to have the franchise to vote on appointments that confer Academic Senate Membership:
Full Professors in the regular faculty series
Associate Professors in the regular faculty series

MOTION 1: The Full and Associate Professors of the Philosophy Department extend the franchise to vote on all appointments that confer Academic Senate Membership to Assistant Professors in the regular faculty series.
14 positive votes required for this to pass.
MOTION 2: The Full and Associate Professors of the Philosophy Department extend the franchise to vote on Assistant Professor appointments that confer Academic Senate membership to Assistant Professors in the regular faculty series.
14 positive votes required for this to pass. (If you vote Yes on Motion 1 and do not vote Yes on this motion, you will be asked to cure your ballot.)

Promotions and Advancements

[From Bylaws1.B.6] All cases of advancement within any rank that confers membership in the Academic Senate shall be voted upon by those persons entitled to vote on promotion or non-reappointment to the rank in question under Section I(B)(2-5).
Note that “cases of advancement within … rank …” refers not only to merit cases but also to 4th-year reviews, Step VI, and Above Scale.]

Voting on Promotions to Associate Professor

The Philosophy Department declares itself in compliance with UC Senate Bylaws which require the following faculty to have the franchise to vote on promotions to Associate Professor:
Full Professors in the regular faculty series
Associate Professors in the regular faculty series

MOTION 3: The Full and Associate Professors of the Philosophy Department extend the franchise to vote on promotions to Associate Professor to the following categories: Assistant Professors in the regular faculty series.
14 positive votes required for this to pass.
MOTION 4: The Full and Associate Professors of the Philosophy Department extend the franchise to vote on all merit increases for Assistant Professors in the regular faculty series to Assistant Professors in the regular faculty series.
14 positive votes required for this to pass. (If you voted Yes on MOTION 3 and did not vote yes on this motion, you will be asked to cure your ballot.)

Voting rights of Emeritae/i

Recalled Emeritae/I can vote on all substantial departmental questions. The department can vote to extend this privilege to all Emeritae/i by a majority vote, by secret ballot, of all Non-Emeritae/i Academic Senate Members.

Motion 7: The (Non- Emeritae/i) Academic Senate members of the Philosophy Department faculty extend the franchise to vote on all substantial departmental questions to all Emeritae/i Academic Senate Members.
Simple majority of Yes votes from Senate faculty (i.e., 11) required for this to pass.
